Chamonix Activities

Since Chamonix is both a winter and a summer resort there is plenty to do no matter when you come.

If you prefer snow you will most likely come during the skiing season when you can ski, snowboard, you can go cross country, heliskiing, night skiing, snowmobiling, ice climbing, ice skating, hockey, sleigh riding, or snow hiking. If there is anything related to snow and ice you can do it in Chamonix during the winter season. There are different slopes for beginners, intermediate and advanced skiers, and slopes for children.

You should visit the resort and its surroundings during the summer if you like the mountains but not necessary snow. Chamonix has a huge sports complex where one can play tennis, squash, swim, and even play golf. You can also go mountain biking or climbing, paragliding or horse riding. This is also a great place to visit if you like walks in the nature and the clean mountain air.

Some activities like visiting museums, going shopping, going to beauty salons or to spas, going to the cinema or to the casino, going clubbing or to cafes, bars and restaurants, can be done all year round. During the summer there is also a weekly market with fresh produce that you can visit. Also in the market you can find different local artisans that sell their objects of art.

Almost all the activities offered are designed for adults and children and are divided on levels for beginners, intermediates and advanced or divided into two groups: activities for amateurs and activities for professionals. For example climbing can be done both indoors as well as outdoors in especially designed areas, but it can also be done on the mountain with tools and a guide.

Almost any outdoor sport from skiing to paragliding to rafting is available or can be done in Chamonix . Because of its location and the surroundings both Chamonix and the whole valley can offer unforgettable vacations with activities that put your adrenaline to work. A lot of the available activities also offer courses at least at the beginner and intermediate levels. One thing to remember is that some of the activities, especially the ones that require a guide or specialized personnel, have limited spaces. Also some of the activities offered like for example mountain climbing require you to have previous experience in climbing. And of course for most of the activities you can bring your own gear, buy it in town in one of the many available shops or rent it.
